Nostalgic memories~ Pioneer party

All week I'm showcasing my favorite childhood memories and of course turning them into a party!! Yesterday was a kite party. Today a pioneer party! Growing up I was obsessed with Little House on the Prairie TV series and Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. (Some of you reading this may have no clue what I'm talking about). I loved Half-Pint so much!! Laura Ingalls Wilder is considered to be America's Original Pioneer girl. Her books are amazing and a TV series was made based off them. I went looking to blogland to find a pioneer party and of course found a perfect one!

My Little Women and Me (mommy Sarah) had this wonderful pioneer party for her daughter Autumn. Sarah definitely gets the Super Mommy award not only does she give fab parties but she is a mom of SIX girls...yes SIX!! Plus she is a photographer! Whew! I'm tired just thinking about it. Here is the party description in Sarah's words~

Autumn's little pioneer party? A complete success. From the weather (it waited to rain until we were pulling our car away from the Barn) to the chickens (who *happened* to lay enough eggs for everyone to find an egg), it went just exactly how we had envisioned. The party ended up going 4 hours as we had a lot of fun to pack in. There was candle dipping, potato sack races, feeding the goats and chickens, felting eggs and making the biscuits and butter. Whew. It makes me tired just listing it. I didn't think we would have time to do it all, but it came together quite well. The best part of the whole thing? Seeing a bunch of girls in bonnets and aprons. It was just so stinking adorable!!

I love the bonnets and aprons SO much!!! I want one for my little half pint! Also, love how the photos look so pioneerish...my new word...need to contact Webster to add into dictionary.

So you don't have a barn and farm for this party?? Me neither, many local farms allow birthday parties so check it out...if you can't find one no worries.

Here are some ideas:

Have girls come dressed in Pioneer style clothes.

Cake can be made to look like a log cabin, using packaged cake rolls stuck together with toothpicks.
Activities:

Have a spelling bee

Dance to fiddle music

You can purchase My Little House Crafts book from Amazon and have girls make Corncob Dolls just like Laura's.

Make hand-sewed small pillows for their dolls using old fashioned calico fabric

Have potato sack or 3 legged races

Bobbing for apples

Churn butter and make homemade biscuits...don't cheat and use Bisquick either!!

Great recipes can be found in The Little House Cookbook (you can find at Amazon) I look forward to the day Maddy is old enough to watch the Little House series with me and we recreate these great recipes from this cookbook! I did not grow up eating fast food but have become victim of the convenience now. Note to self...slow down!!
