Nostalgic memories-Lemonade Stand for a cause

Today is post #3 from a week long of nostalgic memories turned into parties. Growing up in the 70's, lemonade and Kool Aid stands were a main staple of income for kids in my neighborhood. Lemonade stands bring back tons of memories of hot summer days that seemed to last forever and the sense of "neighborhood". I knew everyone on my entire street. Can you say that today?? Of course a litigious society and fear of not-so-nice people have changed that iconic symbol in our neighborhoods. How about having a lemonade stand this year for a cause ~better yet make it a soiree!

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) for Childhood Cancer is committed to finding a cure for all children with cancer. The foundation operates on the principle introduced by the founder Alexandra “Alex” Scott - “when life hands you lemons, make lemonade.”
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation first began in 2000, when a then 4-year-old cancer patient named Alex voiced a simple wish - she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help "her doctors" find a cure for all kids with cancer. The idea was put into action when Alex held her very first lemonade stand on her family’s front lawn in July of that same year. For the next four years, despite her deteriorating health, Alex held an annual lemonade stand to raise money for childhood cancer research. Alex raised a great deal of money through her annual stands, but in the early months of 2004, she set what to some seemed like an unreachable goal – Alex wanted to raise $1 million.
Though her health was failing, Alex was determined to reach her goal, and when her parents asked how she would do it, she just said – “if people all around the country hold lemonade stands and send in their money, I think I can do it.” Alex was right, and during the weekend of her last lemonade stand in her neighborhood, thousands of volunteers of all ages from all corners of the country held lemonade stands, propelling Alex and her cause to reach $1 million. Shortly following, on August 1, 2004, Alex ultimately lost her life to childhood cancer, but her legacy of hope continues to live on through volunteers young and old.
You can hold your lemonade stand or soiree any weekend or participate in the the foundation's annual Lemonade Days, June 11th, 12th, and 13th, 2010.

A lemon themed party would be easy to do and beautiful. Ask guests to bring a donation in a sealed envelope for cancer research.
A really cool invitation would be to fill a child's sand bucket with all of the supplies to make lemonade and put invitation wording on sticker paper on bucket.
I just think this is the coolest lemonade stand. I want one! I wish my hubby could build things. I know he is glad that he can't!!
This is a beautiful table setting from Country Living. Love the use of burlap as tablecloth, clothespin to hold utensils and the yellow bandanna as napkin. Love, Love, Love!!

Of course I had to add a yellow treats table for your gathering!!

Menu

Lemon Pepper Chicken
Lemon Bars
Lemon Meringue Pie
Classic Lemonade
This would be a great thing to get the kiddos involved with. I thank God for a healthy child~ everyone is not as fortunate.
Many blessings my peeps!!

  2. I love the Alex story and the idea to do a charity piece to your party is excellent! I always have guests bring me children books to donate instead of a hostess gift...and I want that lemonade stand too!

I am actually having a lemonade party for some stay-at-home young moms from my church in May and wouldn't a lemonade stand be the cutest thing???? I am thinking now....that could be dangerous. Be blessed. Cindy
