Color My World

Got kids....then you have broken crayons!
I ran across these crayon initial frames a while back and thought I would share along with a few other ideas to recycle broken crayons. These frames would be great for teacher gifts or used as decor on a kid's party buffet table. Could even spell out name or initials of birthday child. I love recycling broken crayons to new ones. Molds come in every shape so these "new" crayons could be used as favors for any party theme. Just use a mold in your theme. I'm in a Valentine mood so wanted to show some hearts.

Love the giant cupcake crayons....

1. Peel paper off crayons.
2. Break crayons into small pieces.
3. Spray cookie sheet/muffin tin with cooking spray.
4. Place broken crayon 3/4 full into cookie sheet spaces or muffin tins.
5. It looks better if you place red-orange-pink-yellow together and blue-green-purple together. Otherwise, the colors can run together and make brown.
6. Preheat oven to 350 and cook for about 8 minutes.
7. When they are 100% liquid, take out of the oven. Let them cool until hard.

Here is a cute Valentine craft to do with the kiddos.
This melted crayon Valentine heart craft is fun and easy for kids to make, although some parental assistance is required. You’ll need waxed paper, broken crayons and an iron. Cut 2 identical heart shapes from the waxed paper. Sprinkle shaved crayon bits in a thin layer over one of the hearts. Place the other heart on top of the first one to make a sandwich, with the crayon bits in the middle. Iron the heart. The waxed paper and crayon wax will all melt together to make your tie dye heart. Does this bring back memories from when you were a child?? I remember doing this!

  2. When I started reading this, the first thing I thought of was the wax paper, broken crayon, iron projects from my childhood. I think the molded crayons are a great idea. I would assume one would need molds that they never plan to use for food again.

    Great suggestions!

  3. Like you, I have a 2 year old, so I also am forever putting away broken crayons. I've seen the idea of molding them into new shapes, but never saw the idea for the initial frame. That is a REALLY cute idea for a teacher. I'll have to wait 2 or 3 years til my little one is in school.

& I've never done the wax paper/crayon thing but it looks fun!

  4. Thanks Ladies!

    LaToya,

You also could give the initial frame to his daycare teachers. Maddy goes to preschool 2 days a week and this is what I had planned on giving them for Christmas but ended up giving them ornaments (due to my too many projects- not enough time)

  5. Oh by the way April, I am planning Maddy's birthday party to be something Crayola/Sesame Street. Using the characters primary colors as inspiration- I'm using Elmo (red), Cookie Monster (blue), Big Bird (yellow) and Oscar (green). I want to use primary colors but was really tempted to use Abby (pink). AS always, I got a gazillion ideas in my head but I'm in the editing and can I really get this done phase?!
Maddy loves art so that is the main theme of the party.
