Maddycakes Decorating Cents

This blog entry is not about parties but it does have decorating ideas for the frugalista. I had never planned on posting my office space on my blog. However, I was over at Between Naps on the Porch (which I participate on Susan's Tablescape Thursday) and I thought wait a minute I have before and after pics of my office. So here I am participating in Metamorphosis Monday. Please check out Susan's blog for many more transformations by such talented people.

Now about my office which I call my cubby hole. I was running Maddycakes solely from my home office and although I love my home office- it had too many functions. I share it with my husband, my scrapbook room, my business office, my crafting room, and Madison's tear up mommy's stuff room. So I decided to rent a small space so I could separate my business from my home stuff. I found this lovely 10 x 10 space in Scottsdale. I loved the location and couldn't beat the rent price. However the room needed some help. I didn't want to spend a lot of money so I challenged myself to totally decorate the space only using $500. Yes, I went straight HGTV Decorating Cents style! Joan Steffand where are you?

Here is the view from the doorway with is lovely shade of yellow and gorgeous carpeting....not!

It is an adobe style office so I love having my own entrance and window- so much light!

Okay, please excuse the following pictures. They were taken with my IPhone. Like I said, I hadn't plan on posting them. As you can see I painted the walls fuchsia. I knew going in that I wanted black, white, and fuchsia! I went on the hunt for a black and white damask chair. I found this one on Craiglist in mint condition for $40! I LOVE IT SO MUCH! The vase and black sticks - IKEA, I forget exactly how much but around $25 for both. The black Ottoman found in Homegoods for $40. Oh by the way, the curtain is actually a fabric shower curtain that I found at Big Lots for $5. You can't see the detail but it's really cute it is black with some silver swirls in it. (Goes nicely with my silver tacks on chair) Did I tell you that I love my chair!?!

Since the space is so small I couldn't have large furniture. I found 3 white pieces- a desk, long table, and filing cabinet on Craigslist - all for $50! The picture frames are from Big Lots. I have 3 of them side by side at $20 each. The pictures are of my work and daughter. Oh, there is me and my hubby on the shelf. I painted the cabinet that was already in office with chalkboard magnetic paint! Love it - an instant chalkboard and can hold up my "muses" with magnets. Fuchsia chair from Walmart - I think it was $40.
Above my desk hangs things I found from IKEA. These items were in the kitchen section. The top round magnetic tins are meant to hold spices but I use it for paper clips and such. The bottom rack is actually a towel rack. IKEA had these white vases that hung with hooks. So that's were I keep my pens, scissors and junk. Like the lamp? $10 at Ross! Folders from Tuesday Morning. My HP mini doesn't count in my $500 (smile).
Sorry that I don't have a good view of the back wall with long table and magnetic chalkboard. The tall bookshelf came from IKEA for $89.
My window is a vinyl cling that I had made at FEDEX.
I know my office will not win any design awards but I love it and I did it all for under $500!
