Homemade Christmas

Today I was going through the remaining Christmas boxes -I am trying to edit all of my seasonal items and things I really don't need- donate. During my sort, I came across a box of the below ornaments. Isn't it funny how some things or smells can transport you to another time and place? Well, that is exactly what happened. I made these ornaments many years ago when I didn't have a lot of money and wanted to decorate my tree. I used round Styrofoam balls and decoupaged paper and ribbon that I had on hand to it. After all these years, I still think it is beautiful and now I'm thinking this would be a great project to do with my daughter next year! Wouldn't it be awesome to make a family tree? Just take photos and print on regular paper and decoupage to the balls. You could do it in black and white and add silver....oh the possibilities!!!

I think that homemade things are just the best! It means the world to me if I receive a handmade card. I have a niece who always makes me handmade cards and I cherish them and have saved everyone of them. I can't say that I make cards maybe one day when Maddy is older I will find more time in a day??? Maddycakes Muse friend and follower Amy attached the below photo in a blog comment. I thought her homemade garland story was too cute not to share! Here Amy's comment in her words:

Last year we had the (artificial) tree up, decorations out, and reminisced about each ornament; however, I realized that we had thrown out the garland from previous year and we couldn't proceed with decorating the tree. At that point we put our heads together and decided to 'make' garland out of something in the house. Since most of our decorations are primitive, we grabbed some clothes that were slated to be donated, took turns making strips & created a beautiful shabby chic garland by tying them together. Not quite Better Homes & Garden, but here's a photo:

Amy, so creative and your girls will never forget it! It is all about creating memories! Thank you for sharing!

  3. Thank you for sharing my homemade Christmas fun! Everyone had a blast tearing the fabric strips. It's hard to tell in the photo but we used denim, khaki, and strips from a plaid dress.

Love your ornament idea, too -- that may be a project we take on over Christmas break!
